Friday July 19 The Covered Wagon San Francisco, CA
I was really looking forward to this show having heard and read so much about both Bottles & Skulls and 400 Blows. LA prog punk gods 400 Blows and SF slop punk heavyweights Bottles & Skulls on the same bill and for $10 no less. Get ready for rock.
Bottles & Skulls went first and seemed to have had a few beers before the show. Sloppy, starting and stopping, unsubstantiated punk rock snottiness permeated the show and made it hard to care. There was one glimmer early on, but the riff and energy of that song was never captured again. Dissapointing show from a band who's records show a lot more than what was delivered this night. I had read so much about the 400 Blows, but I still wasn't ready for the quirky onslaught delivered by the band. Real tough, real tight, really hard to connect with. I see why people like this band but unfortunately, its to progressive for my tastes. I'm sure we'll hear more about these guys and I'm glad I got to check them out before they get too big.
